"Space Ballet" by Sergio Sarri from 22 July to 10 September 2017 in the historic Villa Argentina building in Viareggio (LU). Curated by Niccolò Bonechi, the exhibition will be inaugurated on Saturday 22 July at 6.30 pm. The staff, promoted by the Province of Lucca in collaboration with the Association Sergio Sarri, with the patronage of the City of Viareggio and the membership of MiBACT and with the support of Robilant + Voena, collects about thirty paintings made between 1968 and 2017. The exhibition is a real anthology that analyzes half a century of artist career, proposing it as one of the protagonists of the North-Italian Pop Art that, looking especially at the European and British experiences - differs from The Roman one giving rise to results of great complexity and sophistication. The title of the show - "Space Ballet" - refers to the great 2017 triptych occupying the most important hall of the foreground of Villa Argentina. As Armando d'Amaro writes in the critical text accompanying the exhibition "A mirror not always impassive of our miseries, the artist reaches the apex and synthesis of his latest research in the SPACE BALLET triptych, where - blending the commensurable of the apollineo with 'Irrational of Dionysian - quotes and commends the work of a master of the Bauhaus: Oskar Schlemmer, in a formal equilibrium between chromaticity and plasticity, bound classicism to modernity by scattering and bold re-compositions in the utopian attempt to reinvent a genre already divided between humans acting As machines and machines that work as humans ". The exhibition path is on the first and second floor of the liberty villa owned by the Province of Lucca, recently restored and used as a venue for exhibitions. The second floor, however, is entirely dedicated to works made in the last period. These paintings show how the artist's pictorial investigation went ahead in a somewhat less synthetic way, while maintaining a strong bond with previous experiences, especially in terms of compositional and intent. Sarri is interested in inventing a world, not replicating the existing one, talking about utopias and futuristic scenarios. Hard to categorize and define, Sarri is a sophisticated painter who has passed Pop history after having contaminated it with the conceptual sphere.
